If you’ve ever watched Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, you’re probably familiar with The Boondocks. If not, it’s based on the comic strip which you’ve probably read at one point or another. In one episode, Granddad opens The Itis, a restaurant named after the coma-like symptoms of eating their famous Luther Burger: A full pound burger patty covered in cheese. Grilled onions, five strips of bacon, all sandwiched between…two Krispy Kreme donuts. After trying the burger for the first time, Riley exclaims “this is what crack must feel like” and that the burger is the “best thing ever”. While I think that the formulation described in the show seems a bit far-fetched to bring to the real world, I figured that this would be the ultimate Guilty Pleasure food for the 7th week of Reddit’s 52 Weeks of Cooking Challenge.
I decided to make homemade donuts, being that the nearest Krispy Kreme is about 6 hours away. I also ground my own mixture of chuck and sirloin and cooked the burger in dry-aged beef fat that I managed to snag from work. The bacon was from the local butcher shop and I used a 2-year aged cheddar cheese. Scaled down burger, less bacon, and just one doughnut. It may not be as large, but I can fully attest to ensuing food coma. Even as I’m writing this post, I feel sluggish and tired and I’m having a hard time spelling properly. If anybody needs me, I’ll be sleeping this one off for the next month or so.

Yum!!
uh oh, if bacon/burgers are crack…I better go to rehab! great post
Less about the bacon, more about the whole thing being between donuts haha. If there’s rehab for bacon, I don’t want to get better.
